About the Artist

Wendy Laverick is a British artist inspired by nature, animals, and the beauty of everyday life. Her expressive, characterful artwork is created to bring warmth, colour, and personality into the home.

Alongside her much-loved animal collections, Wendy also creates original landscape paintings inspired by places close to home — including the Severn Bridge, Chepstow Castle and Tintern Abbey — capturing atmosphere, light and a strong sense of connection to the landscape.

Wendy’s Story

Wendy Laverick (also known as Wendy Thompson) is a British artist based in the Cotswolds and originally from Middlesbrough. With a professional career spanning over forty years, she is known for her expressive, characterful animal and nature-inspired artwork, created primarily in acrylics and pastels.

Her work is rooted in close observation of the natural world and is recognised for its warmth, narrative quality, and strong sense of personality. Wendy produces original paintings, limited-edition fine art prints, canvases, greeting cards, and homeware designed to bring colour and character into everyday spaces.

Career, Commissions & Residencies

In the early 2000s, Wendy was appointed Artist in Residence with the Darlington Building Society, a publicly funded residency supported by the Northern Arts Encore Award.

The residency culminated in the 2002 exhibition A Year in the Life, which explored contemporary community and cultural themes through original artwork.

Exhibitions & Awards

In addition to her residency work, Wendy received a separate contemporary artwork commission in 2001, also funded by the Darlington Building Society.

The residency programme and its touring exhibitions and commissions received national recognition, including:

• A Cultural Business Venture Award for Art in the Making touring exhibitions

• An Arts & Business Award for innovative community engagement through art

Wendy’s creative practice is inspired by wildlife, rural life, and the changing landscape of the British countryside. Her studio work reflects a deep connection to animals and nature, capturing both character and emotion through expressive mark-making.
